希望 Hope

English Translation: Linda Yang

Without hope,
You’ll never be disappointed…
But, living with hopelessness,
Is it any better?

Actually,
With hope,
You will never be disappointed…
Because real hope is from God,
And gifts from God
Will never change when circumstances do.

The Bible says, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love…”
You see, God prepared us faith, love, and hope
To last unto eternity…

Do you want to live life filled with love and hope?
Admit that you are a sinner in need of saving;
Accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour…

Spring 春

Kiera Lhys

When the soft, dead silence of winter

Gives way to the warm wind of the zephyrs,

And the robin once more begins to sing,

Then will all nature celebrate the coming of Spring.

Dancing snowflakes no longer billow from the sky

Pattering rain takes its place to raise the flowers high

Gentle sunlight pierces though the clouds in promise

Of the Spring that all nature has come to miss.
Blue skies and the singing birds announce

While the budding flowers and dancing trees pronounce

Spring is here at long last, no more of winter’s rages—

Gentle spring is here now with new life in its pages.

Vulnerability

小米 Naomi | Translation: Linda Yang

Some people want love
But fear getting hurt
So they don’t love at all…

Does that mean when you do love
You’ll never fear again?
Or
If you live in fear,
You’ll never be hurt?

What’s the use in being afraid?

We do not fear
Because we believe the Lord is Sovereign
And He prepares all that is good and wonderful
For those who believe Him.

We do not fear
Not just because we do not fear getting hurt
But when we get hurt, we do not fear
Rather we continue to love…

Gift

Naomi | English Translation: Linda Yang

At 14, I realized for the first time that I was my own person, that I needed my own space, privacy.
Then, I found that the secrets I wrote in my journal often became topics of conversation with my mother.
So, like a frightened little bird, I hid the journal at the bottom of my backpack and took it with me everywhere.
But a classmate found it and pass it around in class.
That was the start of the nightmare.

Night 夜

Kiera Lhys
Moonbeams through a window,

Teardrops of dew clinging to the grass,

A lone rose blooms in the night.
A pale orb shining in the sky,

Crystal jewels litter the ground,

A single flower living out its glory.

Ten Years

Naomi | English Translation: Linda Yang

At sixteen, she had hair down to her waist.

Father grabbed her by the hair and slammed her head on the wall. He kicked her in the face until she was disfigured.

Through her tears, she saw Mother standing in the doorway, sneering.

Haha

Path of Righteousness

小米 Naomi

English Translation: Linda Yang

O Lord, Lord, Lord!

Creator God of the universe…

Do you know

You are

The only desire of my heart
Whether on mountains or in valleys

Or on the road to the Red Sea

You, God, are omnipotent

You direct me on the path of righteousness
You lead me beside quiet waters

Teach me to be salt and light of the earth

And tell me that

You are Lord Jesus

Jesus Christ
Over mountains and valleys

Through the Red Sea road

I finally know that

You are Lord

The One and Only

Time and Eternity

Kiera Lhys

Down the path of life we walk

With all the twists and turns we’ve never sought.

Dreams, hopes, and failures all pass us by,

And then we are gone; a ripple in time, and then we die.

That is our fate as humans, on the journey that we walk.
Time is but an image of eternity;

A snapshot of life, something that we see.

The ticking of the clock, the passing of the sun.

Every dawn becomes dusk, then everything is done.

Our time is gone, nothing but a flash of eternity.

光陰只不過是永恆的一個縮影;

Dawn

Kiera Lhys |
A midnight-blue sky dotted with stars;

Countless in their sparkle, twinkling above.

The more you seek, the more appears,

Those gems that decorate the heavens.
The darkness of the night appears,

Diffusing midnight to navy,

From navy to indigo-violet while

The shining orb of life rises in the east.
Soft lavender light filters through the window.

The cool night air rises from the misty ground.

Birds awaken and begin to fill the silent space

With cheerful voices, songs of joy.
The clouds are clothed majestically

In gold, purple, pink, and blue

To welcome the rising star of morning-

The heavens declare the glory of the Maker.
The mountains stand in all their splendour,

The flowers display His awe-inspiring designs,

And all the while the little birds are singing

God’s praises sweetly in the trees.

午夜的藍天繁星點點;

Dance of Peace

By Kiera Lhys |

How is it that such gloominess captures me?
Rain streams from the heavens without end.
Are they God’s tears? Or the Gardener’s care?
Falling and falling, continuously, endlessly, falling
Such a strange repetition with a wry beauty.
A visit from above, a soft pitter on the ground.
The rain continues to come, continues to fall.
In falling it entrances me, enslaves my eyes.
Though exhausted, my mind is ablaze with thoughts
While I watch this greyness pouring down and down
Safely from inside the window, away from the wind
And rain that never ceases, long as I may watch.
Such calm steals through my soul as I sit,
A peace that cannot exist fills my heart, my mind.
I worry over nothing, no stress can touch me
As long as I am still, unmoving, listening to the quiet,
Listening to the whisper of my own thoughts, listening
To the gentle pattering of the rain’s dance, nature’s song.

Open 開啟

By Kiera Lhys |

An open window invites a refreshing breeze
Into a hot, stuffy room with ease.
An open door provides a warm welcome
To a weary traveller at last approaching home.
An open book fires the imagination,
Taking it to faraway places just for fun.
An open heart…what does it do?
Allows Christ to enter, and fill it up with love for you!

Cry 《

By Kiera Lhys |

My God, my God,
Why hast Thou forsaken me?
Hear my cry, quoted from Your Son.
How do You expect me to live in this earth
Surrounded by hate, sorrow, and frustration?
Why are You so far when I need you most?
My child, my child,
Why have you so little faith?
Does not every tempest give way to peace?
Does not My hand carry you through all adversity,
And in all your times of trial and fear?
Why doubt My love for you when I display it most?
Within every cloud, there is a silver lining.
After every storm appears a rainbow.
With every death, there is a new life.
After every Winter comes Spring.
While you are shaking your fist at heaven in fury,
God is holding you the closest in comfort.

Once Upon a Time

By Kiera Lhys
Artwork by Iris Lo

Once upon a time.
Simple words that begin a fairy tale.
Fairies, and magic, and evil queens,
And happily-ever-afters.
Once upon a time.
There once lived a little girl.
Her mama ran away without a thought,
Leaving her alone with Papa and Granma,
And her once-upon-a-times.
Her papa got her a new mama,
And her granma went to heaven.
Still, the little girl kept living
In once-upon-a-times.
She grew up a dreamer.
Her mind was always in the clouds.
Reality is fantasy, and fantasy is reality
With once-upon-a-times.
The little girl always felt alone.
She didn’t know that God was always near,
Even when she loses herself
Within once-upon-a-times.
A trusted friend finally showed her
God’s outstretched hand and unfailing love.
The girl reached out and took His hand.
No more once-upon-a-times.
God has saved her from herself
And has redeemed her from evil.
If not for God, she would still be cursed to live
Inside once-upon-a-times.
There is no life within fantasy.
God gave new life with new meaning
The moment she accepted Him and
Left her once-upon-a-times.
Once upon a time.
Simple words that bring only emptiness.
In Christ alone, I place my trust.
Simple words that bring happily-ever-afters
When He calls us home.

爸爸給她找了個新媽媽;
她整天都在做夢;
小女孩總是覺得孤單;
主的膀臂一直為她而伸,主愛無窮無盡;
而在主裡的新生卻還有了簇新的意義;
三言兩語之後有的只是空虛;

Happy《

Poem and artwork By Naomi |

It is true
that
I am no longer young and pretty
I am living a life without family
I have no lover, no career
no money

But you know what?
Because of Jesus,
I am happy
